Counting
trays are basically designed to allow tablets/capsules to be counted by a
pharmacist, pharmacy technician or other professional from a stock supply and
then placed into a dispensing bottle without the need for the capsules/tablets
to touch human hands.
The
tablets/capsules are first poured into the centre of the tray and then moved
into the well by the pharmacist using a spatula. The usual amount of
tablets/capsules moved into the well per stroke is 5. Once the correct
amount of tablets/capsules are in the well the pharmacist then closes the well
and pours any excess tablets from the flat surface of the counting tray back
into the stock bottle.
